Here at Impressed we've been fans of Beckah Amani for a long time. We've heard her perform countless times, hosted her back at our shop. On the anniversary of her debut album release, we're stoked to commit it to a very limited vinyl run.

Being the opening act can be a tough gig. 

When you're Beckah Amani and the headliner is Coldplay, it can be a lot more fun. She's already amassed hundreds of thousands of streams online and played to stadiums. 

With her debut full-length album, 'This Is How I Remember It', Beckah Amani crafts a deeply intimate and hauntingly beautiful narrative. Drawing on her roots in Tanzania and her upbringing in Australia, Beckah weaves together indie-pop, Afro-soul, and R&B into a rich sonic tapestry that pulses with emotion. It unfolds like an exhale — tender, assured, and luminous. It is not just an album, but a coming-of-age in real time: the sound of a young woman sifting through memory, love, shame, resilience, and all the versions of herself she has ever carried.

The album arrives like a series of conversations between two former lovers — reflections, regrets, and raw memories laid bare. Tracks such as the soaring 'Free Fall' (produced by M-Phazes Kehlani, Remi Wolf, Sinéad Harnett) speak of the courage in letting go, while 'Sober' (produced by Jakwob) confronts not only personal longing but broader themes of accountability and change.

Of the track 'Free Fall', Beckah says: “Free fall was a song I had to write. It’s not a song I had to think hard about or try hard to get to. I sonically wanted to capture the chaotic but wonderful and freeing moment when you decide to let go and dive into something new, trusting that you will land where you are meant to be. I wanted it to feel like both falling without a parachute and flying with a pair of new wings…

Change can be so scary and trusting that things will work out can be so hard when you’re not confident in yourself and have a wall of insecurities and failure as your point of reference. I wrote the lyrics from a second person perspective hoping listeners can find strength and courage in the words during moments of uncertainty and growing pains.”

Beckah has captured widespread industry attention – most recently nominated for Emerging Songwriter of the Year at the 2024 APRA Awards. Last year, Beckah was named in the NME 100, spotlighted as an essential emerging artist to look out for, while 2022 saw her take home the APRA Professional Development Award for Popular Contemporary, plus the QMA Award for Emerging Artist of the Year in 2021 presented by triple j Unearthed.

'This Is How I Remember It' is proudly pressed on heavyweight clear and orange marbled vinyl, limited to 100 copies with our signature, individually numbered obi strip.
