Elsy Wameyo has emerged as a force to be reckoned with in recent years. Against a changing social and cultural landscape, Elsy’s work has elevated and evolved – a chameleonic artist pouring life’s lessons and experiences into dynamic pieces of art.
2022 saw the release of the Kenyan artist's long-awaited debut EP, NILOTIC, a self-produced six-track fusion of hip hop, alt-R&B and soul-infused music. The EP was a moment of arrival: acknowledging Elsy’s heritage – the Nilotic peoples indigenous to the Nile Valley – the powerful collection of music put Elsy on a national radar. It was impassioned music that genre fans had become inspired by, thanks to artists like Kendrick Lamar and Little Simz.
As a result, Elsy has accepted multiple accolades. These include a deserved six wins at the South Australia Music Awards for Best Studio Engineer/Producer, Best Music Video, Best Song, Best Solo Artist & Best Release, and later being crowned triple j Unearthed’s Artist of the Year.
She's then supported Genesis Owusu, Sampha The Great and The Hilltop Hoods.
Now, Elsy Wameyo's debut LP SAINT SINNER is an album of reclamation and self-empowerment.
A powerful collection of music that journeys themes of identity and spirituality, SAINT SINNER documents a potent and poignant chapter of Elsy’s personal and artistic evolution. Through the turmoil and tumult of young adulthood, navigating the modern world as a Black woman has been a process not without its constant struggles – struggles to find a sense of purpose, clear identity and belonging.
Just the way she intended.
