Impressed is proud to bring you Belconnen Highs, by Snakeheads, on limited edition vinyl.
Australian music industry legend’s posthumous album completed by lifelong friend and former bandmate
Snakeheads is a Sydney-based punk band born from a 35-year friendship between James Roden and Pete Lusty. Their journey began in 1983 at Belconnen High School in Canberra, where they bonded over a shared love of music. This connection led to numerous musical collaborations over the years, including bands like The Morticians, John Reed Club, and The City Lights.
In 2014, after years of individual pursuits, Roden and Lusty reunited in Sydney and began jamming together every Monday night, drawing inspiration from '70s British punk and U.S. hardcore. Joined by friends Kit Warhurst on drums, Graeme Trewin on drums as well, and Harry Roden on bass, they formed Snakeheads. Their aim was simple: to play music they loved without pressure or expectation.
In 2019, they began recording their debut album with renowned producer Wayne Connolly at Hercules Studio. Tragically, Lusty was diagnosed with a highly aggressive cancer that took his life in March 2020 before the album could be completed. Despite this loss, Roden was determined to finish the project as a tribute to his friend. He continued to work on the recordings, working with Jay Whalley (Frenzal Rhomb) and others to finish 17 songs.
Snakeheads’ debut and final album, Belconnen Highs, is set for release on 29th August 2025 on brand new label – Cassell Records – through Impressed, available on vinyl and streaming platforms. The album serves as a heartfelt tribute to Lusty and the enduring friendship that fueled their musical journey.

Lusty also co-founded one of Australia's longest-running and most respected indie labels in 1997, Ivy League Records (Youth Group, Cloud Control, Josh Pyke, Alpine, The Rubens, Teskey Brothers) and, tragically, passed away from lymphoma in 2020, a week before the world went into COVID lockdown.
